_____ SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT _________________

What to do about advertising in HomeBizBytes?

Dave and I have agonized over this for months. You see, the
prices we charge for advertising are so incredibly low when
compared with industry standards and other newsletters. And,
quite frankly, the only reason we allow advertising in the first
place is to help you.

Our only incentive has been to allow a quality place where
fellow home-based entrepreneurs, often on a tight budget, could
advertise their products. And, we wanted subscribers to become
aware of quality products, services and programs that could
benefit them. By the way, we screen ALL ads before letting them
go through.

Lately, it has become increasingly time-consuming to keep this
up. As such, we've come to the conclusion that we need to do
one of two things: 1) either raise ad prices, or 2) do away with
paid ads all together.

Dave and I realized we really need to pose this question to YOU.
Please don't respond by telling us the pro's and con's of
putting ads in the newsletter. Trust me, we've beat that topic
to death. What we really want to know is simply what YOU want.

PLEASE...

If want us to continue accepting paid ads for the newsletter,
send an email to mailto:yes@homebusinessonline.com .
If you feel inclined, please include in the body of the email
what you feel is reasonable for advertisers to pay for a Sponsor
Ad as well as for a 2-Liner Ad.

If want us to discontinue accepting paid ads for the newsletter,
send an email to mailto:no@homebusinessonline.com .
Feel free to include your comments in the body of the email.

FYI, if you'd like to look over current ad info, you'll find it
at http://www.HomeBusinessOnline.com/ezine/hbb/adinfo.html
This will change soon according to what kind of response we
receive from you.

_____ FEATURED ARTICLE _____________________

              When Your Gut Speaks Out

Dave spent two of the most gruelling, contentious days of his
life last week.

Where? In a mechanic's shop.

No, Dave isn't a mechanic. He's a programmer, my business
partner and my spouse. So what was he doing there?

The short of it is that we decided to put a new (rebuilt) motor
in one of our cars that we loved and wanted to keep. While we
were told it would take only two weeks, those two weeks turned
into another two weeks. And, with the way things seemed to be
going down at the mechanic's shop, we realized it could easily
turn into four more weeks.

So, Dave went down to the shop to befriend the mechanic and
basically hold his hand to make sure it got done. He took two
full, frustrating days off to work on our car with the mechanic.
Agreeing to meet around 9:00 a.m. the first day, the mechanic
sauntered in after noon. The remainder of the day brought a
steady stream of "buddies" who dropped in to chat with the
mechanic. Dave was beside himself. So, he stayed after hours,
into the night, to keep this guy working and focused.

The next day brought a similar scenario. Sitting and waiting
for hours for the mechanic to show up. More buddies. More
chatting. Very little accomplished. Lots of frustration.

Dave ran errands for the mechanic, picked up parts for the car
at his own expense, and even brought the mechanic dinner as a
bribe to convince him to continue working into the evening.

After two full days and nights of keeping this up, Dave arrived
home at 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Dirty, exhausted,
completely spent, he announced, "We just have a little tweaking
and tightening left to do. We will have the car tomorrow."
And we did.

As Dave dropped into bed and his head hit the pillow, his words
slurred, "I am so grateful for what I do for a living. I love
what we're building." That's the last I heard from Dave until
breakfast.

You know, we all have moments in our lives that give us the
opportunity to step out of our everyday lives and take a look
from the outside in. Opportunities that give us perspective.
These are necessary moments. We need to internalize them, not
gloss over them. They mean something.

As Dave had a good look from an entirely new perspective, this
awful feeling came into his gut when he thought about doing
something else.

It wasn't a logical, well-thought out idea. It simply came deep
down, from the gut.

We had a similar experience two years ago when our young son
died of a serious illness. After weeks of exhaustion, long days
at the hospital, the last thing we could even think about was
work. For some time, our business did not even exist in our
minds. It couldn't. Our total focus was on our son.

I'll never forget the day I sat down at my computer and turned
it on after all was said and done with those difficult events.
The thought naturally occurred to me, "Do I like what I'm
doing?" I had to face this with complete honesty at that
moment.

It wasn't a time to put pro's and con's down on paper. It
wasn't a time to consider all business angles. It was simply a
time to feel deep down inside, from the gut. Did I really like
what I was doing for a living. I'm happy to report that my
answer was, "Yes!"

These kinds of moments help us to re-focus, to re-group. They
are necessary to forge ahead, to find our own success.

So, what does your gut tell you?

_____KIND THINGS YOU HAVE SAID______________

Note from Heidi: Can't say I've ever been called "way cool,"
but I think I like it...

Karen's kind words:

"Wow, I had been getting your ezine for 3 or 4 months, then
bought the book,"The Women's Home-based Business Book of
answers" and lo and behold, Heidi is in there! I haven't
finished it yet, but it is a great book and I love reading
it. I didn't know as much about your business before I read
the book, but now am very impressed..and homeschooling your
children too? Way cool!"
