Is Your ISP Killing Your Business?
In a news release yesterday, Earthlink, one of the larger ISP's,
proudly announced it's anti-pop-up tool embedded in its web
surfing browser.
Great! You say?
What if I were to tell you this is disastrous? Seriously,
folks, this is just one more blow for the small business guy.
First, the ISP's block email addresses and domains they receive
from blacklists, causing many of your own customers and
subscribers to never receive your legitimate messages. Now,
they kill your well-thought out pop-ups that help people
navigate your site or that contain a call to action.
Don't get me wrong, Dave and I are all for ridding the internet
of the spammers as well as those perennial,
rabbit-hutch-propagating pop-ups. You close one pop-up only to
find another, and another and another. Enough already! It's no
wonder web surfers are tired of it and want out. Such
irresponsible marketing ruins it for the rest of us.
However, this doesn't mean that Earthlink and many ISP's who
will follow suit have produced a viable solution to the looping
problem. After all, their Pop-up Blocker Service will delete
your subscription pop-ups, your help and navigational pop-ups,
your upsells, you name it. They're history.
Nevertheless, Earthlink has already put this plan in place. A
done deal. We have to live with it. And, as more ISP's follow
suit, perhaps it's time to begin considering some new
strategies.
Thanks to Markus Allen of MarkusAllen.org, here's a few
suggestions to keep in mind when using pop-ups and pop-unders on
your website:
1) From our understanding, Earthlink's technology alerts the Web
surfer (via a sound and toolbar graphic) that a pop-up/pop-under
exists and offers the option to view it. Out of pure curiosity
some will click to view your pop-up. So, keep using the
pop-ups. Just don't make them your only way for visitors to
easily find the information they contain.
2) Put tracking tools in place with your pop-ups. Test and
analyze your responses. It's the only way to know whether your
pop-ups are still productive in the long-run.
3) Consider placing critical or ordering information outside of
pop-ups. For example, if a javascript opens a pop-up for your
shopping cart, ISP's technology may block it. No sell, no
customer.
This new technology that will most likely become embedded in web
surfers' browsers will change and evolve over time. Just be
aware that it exists and that it could effect your sales.

_____ LATEST AND GREATEST __________________
Dave and I have received excellent results from Wes Blaylock's
SubscriberDrive free list builder program - literally thousands
of subscribers. This proves to us that the concept works. The
only problem is that Wes' website often goes down, sometimes for
long periods of time.
So, we were excited to hear from Troy McDonald a little over a
week ago that he was starting a new, similar service - a list
building co-op - and it's free!
But, Dave and I wanted to try it out first to be sure his
software was working correctly and that his rewards system did,
indeed, produce subscribers before we let you know about it. If
you know us, you know this is a habit of ours.
The results?
Not only does it work, but it brings in significant numbers of
targeted subscribers. Yes, targeted! And, these are all opt-in
subscribers. What's more, Troy's service is lightning fast.
Pages come up quickly, even with the rush of recent sign-ups.
It seems he's put everything in place. Thus far, we are very
impressed.
If you want to build your list(s) and find more potential
customers, we strongly suggest you get on board soon while your
listing has a better chance of "sticking out" in the crowd. It
can do great things for you!
THE SPECIAL BONUS FOR OUR SUBSCRIBERS...
I spoke with Troy today about giving our subscribers a little
something more. At first he said he'd give our subscribers 100
credits when they signed up, BUT we put the pressure on and
pushed him up to 200. YES, 200 CREDITS right off the bat!
However, he said the only way to receive them is by following
the below instructions. Here's what Troy told us (quoting
him)...
1. They will have to join through your unique URL, log into
your account and retrieve it.
http://www.subscriptionrocket.com/cgi-bin/r.cgi?r=179
2. They will have to confirm their account.
3. They will have to activate their account by placing their
unique HTML on their site.
4. After the above three things are done, they are to send an
e-mail to me, Troy, at support@SubscriptionRocket.com and
include:
Their user name and the words "200 HomeBusinessOnline Bonus".
Remind them to follow steps 1-3 or the system won't allow me
to add the credits.
Clear as mud? If you have any trouble at all, let us know and
we'll personally contact Troy for you. Okay?
To start off with Step 1 above, you'll need to use our unique
URL:
http://www.subscriptionrocket.com/cgi-bin/r.cgi?r=179
Here's to building your list and getting plenty of new sales!
Dave and Heidi
P.S. If you want the greatest benefits, set up your new leads
on an autoresponder. This will give you the greatest leverage
and ultimately bring you more sales.
