A warm welcome from Heidi and Dave to our new subscribers.
Thank you in advance for sharing this issue with friends,
family and associates!
Friends and Readers of HomeBizBytes,
--> Oh, these DOGgone holidays!
Well, we did something really stupid last week. We got a
dog. Now, don't get me wrong, we've wanted a family dog for
some time. But, what in the world could have possessed us to
get a dog during the holidays when stress levels are high and
time is limited? If there is any redeeming value to this, I
will tell you that a basset hound is one of the best family
dogs you could ask for. Truly! This little guy (8 weeks) has
already learned to do his soiling outside, has crate trained
tremendously, and he lets us sleep at night. Yes! He cries
when we put him in his area under the stairs for the first 10
minutes, and then settles in for a loooong winter's nap,
waking up around 6:30 am for a potty break outside. Wow!

_____ REVIEWS AND RECOMMENDATIONS __________
Recently, quite a few subscribers have emailed us about using
eBay to make money online. Dave and I have had great success
in the past using eBay's massive traffic to drive sales as well
as traffic to our websites. So, yes, we feel eBay is something
you should take a look at. After reading around 10 different
courses/eBooks on eBay, we've included our findings below:
--> Make Your Net Auction Sell - by Sydney Johnston
A comprehensive course that teaches you every aspect of doing
business and marketing on eBay. Lengthy, but good info.
A good course for eBay beginners. Here's the link:
http://www.sitesell.com/how_to.html
--> Silent Sales Machine - by Jim Cockrum
Jim's approach is in selling information on eBay and automating
the process to make money with the same products over and over
again. Although Louis Allport also has a book interviewing Jim
and his methods, after reading both, we can definitely say that
Jim's book is the better of the two. Much more detail.

--> Ultimate Home Biz Opportunity - by Dave Vallieres
This one has tremendous appeal for building websites and then
selling them on eBay. But, these are not just any kind of
websites. Dave explains what he does to consistently earn
$1000's from each listing, and he can do several a week. Some
of his auction listings have earned him as as $8,000 per
listing. He claims this is the ultimate way to make large sums
of money on demand. His proven concept is very intriguing.

Good luck, and please let us know how you fair on eBay!

_____ TIPS 'N' TRICKS ______________________
--> A trick using Amazon you probably never knew
If you market Amazon.com products, your 15% commission may be
evaporating into 5%-8%. To make sure you get the 15%, just be
sure to add "ref=nosim" to your string. Since Amazon puts an
extra page between the customer and the product, if your
customer get distracted and clicks someplace else, you lose
your 15%, even if they click back and still purchase the
product you recommended. Adding "ref=nosim" delivers a page
that does not contain those "You may also be interested in
items..." links. Look at the difference between these 2 links:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0917510194/ref=nosim/info08-20
--> Major magazine wants to interview women who work at home
A major magazine is looking for interview subjects. They would
like to talk to work-at-home moms who have younger children
(approx. 8 and under) who are running their own business.

_____ FEATURED ARTICLE _____________________
Psychologists and Your Home-based Business
At this time of year, during the holiday season, the words
happiness and good cheer come to mind. But, do you know what
happiness is?
Linus, the comic character of the late Charles Schultz, says
happiness is a warm blanket. Others say happiness can be found
in wealth and abundance.
What say ye?
Interestingly, while psychology has traditionally studied mental
illness and unhappiness, a growing field of psychology is now
studying something new called "positive psychology." This new
breed of psychologists is studying what makes people happy, not
unhappy. And, would you believe their findings have everything
to do with your home-based business?
In January, 2001, Dave and I presented a case for the New
Entrepreneur vs. the Classic Entrepreneur. View the article at
http://www.homebusinessonline.com/ezine/hbb/010104.html#feature
The difference between the two kinds of entrepreneurs has to do
with how each measures satisfaction.
Recently, the front page of USA Today reported that happiness
has little to do with getting rich. Rather, happiness has
everything to do with the meaning and value of your personal
life and work.
Now, take the following discoveries about happiness and relate
them to your home-based business work and lifestyle:
· Happy people tend to be friend- and family-oriented.
· People are happiest when they are wrapped up in work they
like.
· Responsibilities, even very large ones, do not in themselves
cause unhappiness.
· Reciprocally, being unburdened with responsibilities does
not make for a happy life.
· Happy people are generally grateful people.
· Altruism creates happiness -- but in the giver, not the
receiver.
Do you see the link yet?
Now, let's look at values of the typical home-based
entrepreneur (the new entrepreneur):
· Home-based entrepreneurs are looking for greater independence
and control of their own lives.
· They want the work they do to be more meaningful and to build
a business around what they love.
· They are looking for more freedom and choices, to choose to
spend more time with their families and friends, to determine
their own schedules.
· They enjoy life now. Although they have goals for the
future, they want to enjoy the present, including
relationships — business relationships, home life, their
children, friendships.
· They have a deep-rooted belief that they can have a better
quality of life. This quality may or may not be determined
monetarily. As such, they have a strong determination to
succeed, no matter what obstacles come their way.
Now, while there is nothing scientific about my observation, it
would seem to me that the above is a recipe for happiness,
happiness as a home-based entrepreneur.
The only thing that may be lacking in this recipe are the last
two discoveries mentioned - happy people are generally grateful
and altruistic.
So, this holiday season and the coming new year, why don't we
all expend a little extra energy toward working on gratitude
and altruism in our lives and our businesses.
Let's put our families, friends and customers before our own
wants, work harder at customer service. Let's not develop a
product or service or give out advice solely to make a buck.
Rather, let's put our customers' interests before ours.
Let's consider on a daily basis how fortunate we are to be
working from home, to have the freedom to build and shape our
own futures, to have meaningful relationships with those we
love and to spend more time with them.
Actually, why don't we all write these things into our business
plan right now. Go ahead, do it now.
I believe the money will follow. Certainly, happiness will.
