Not sure whether it's you or not, since you're not clear about what you mean.

Clarify please.

To put in my own 2 cents here - I think a great way to study your competition is to get on their mailing list.

When they send you letters, you can look at them, find out what caught your attention - both in the subject and also in the body of the email.

You can learn a lot to help your own business.

If you want to make it easier to manage, you can always open a new email account on yahoo or gmail just for that.

I have been doing opponent's research for a while and I must confess that this significantly enhance my techniques and my overall perspective of my company. I discovered out there's a lot of space for developments and no cash was lost ever again in my promotion since I know what to do.

Well, Competitor Analysis is nothing but it is shown how much traffic you are getting on a particular keyword from different competitor sites. It also provides some traffic generation strategies, for an example, if you go to low competitor keyword and do the SEO or SMM, then it might be possible that you get a better rank in SERP. There are so many tools available in the market, by which you can easily optimize your website and analyze your competitor.

Then how about listing some of them, and being practical instead of being vague?

While analysing some competitors, they are in the first position without any backlinks. How is it possible?

Good quality content, intelligent on-page SEO, strong social signals.

Backlinks are not as influential these days in rankings.

Here is a nice post. It's quite informative and good article to understand importance of competitor analysis. To get success in online business writing articles is very important .Write articles related to your site and put your website address in the by-line. If you can write good content, your articles will be published and a lot of readers who like your article will start using your website
A well-written article can:
- help you build your profile as an expert
- draw traffic to your site, and
- help you to build a database of potential clients through associated e-courses or a newsletter.
