Hello, I am new here and I am intrigued by this tread. Have you further investigated this since you first posted? Is the frequency of the bots due to the volume of posting combined with the quality of posts? I was just wondering if you have complied any more information on the subject. thanks!

Actually, every time I log on (multiple times a day) I notice Google, Yahoo and Ichiro bots logged in.

I have no way of telling how often or for how long they visit, just that they're here whenever I log in.

The important thing to consider is WHY Google rates these TLDs so highly.

THEN think about how you can EARN links on those domains by creating content of sufficient VALUE to qualify.

Of course you can. Forums are the original/oldest form of community/social networking on the Internet.

The fact is that blogs, social media and social networks — including Twitter and Facebook — are all based on the forum model.

I do it because it makes sense — it attracts people who contribute quality content and cranks up our own rankings.

(It also attracts the blowflies and other pests that buzz around their rear ends, unfortunately, but we can deal with them.)

Since I last posted, it's become apparent that Google Bot and Yahoo! Bot are more-or-less permanently in residence. In the weeks since the forums came back on line, these crawlers have been here every single time I'm on-line and they stay for the entire session — which can be up to 18 hours.

All good news! :)

John

something very interesting i want to share.

one of my websites is on the first page of Google.

since the last two days, someone made a post in a forum -
using the name of my website as the title of the post.

Now, that post title is on the first page of Google -
above my website.

any opinions on how this is possible?

Page Rank for that forum — probably a tier 1 or 2 site, so much more link juice than your own site.

Have you read the free tutorial on link authority, link profile and link juice yet?

Veena,

I made an interesting discovery this week: I have some domain names between 3-12 years old that I'm not really using.

I decided to put them up for sale, and checked their SE results (domain names or similar) in preparation for listing them. Many are for very competitive search terms, too.

Imagine my amazement to discover that several of them not only enjoy the #1 position on Page 1 of Google, but share identical results on Yahoo and Bing as well!

Even more interesting when they have NO optimization in place, placeholder pages only with little or no content and NO backlinks.

Now what was that about the importance of SEO to getting high rankings on search engines?

This has made me even more sceptical of the hype surrounding SEO.

John
