One of the smartest marketers online is Ed Dale (who also lives in Melbourne*, Australia — the World's Most Liveable City).

Ed is the founder of the 30 Day Challenge (now The Challenge), one of the best Internet marketing courses on the Internet.

Ed just posted a fascinating free video posing the question: "What if SEO stopped working?"

If you rely on SEO, or think you need to do more SEO, this is absolutely mandatory viewing.

http://www.eddale.co/internetmarketing/what-if-seo-just-stopped

(For the record, Ed is the guy who coined the term "Google slap".)

(* Melbourne is also home to online market leaders like SitePoint, Hitwise, Market Samurai, Flippa, MelbourneIT (global domain name registrar), World Internet Summit, Envato, ThemeForest, 99designs and many more.)

I think SEO will not stop working. Every search engine needs to have a basis for their searches; otherwise they would lose their usability. What matters most is to understand how the search engines do it. The first one to break the code will win on SEO. The practices in SEO will eventually evolve - This also means that webmasters have to be flexible as what works now would be totally useless 5 years from now.

It just the 90's when people rely so much in KW density - the game has changed since then and we have to know all other aspects to be competitive.

Guys, you're completely missing the point.

Ed isn't asking for reasons why SEO would stop working, or suggesting that it will. He's asking for your thoughts on what alternatives might work in the event that SEO stopped unexpectedly.

Google has been sending signals that SEO is likely to be downgraded drastically in the near future because of relentless abuse, and be supplanted in importance by factors like social networking triggers.

Try to see beyond the limitations of SEO. :D

I believe providing quality content and building a good amount of backlinks (from high quality related sites) will be the most important. Using Social networks and integrating Google + into your website will also have a big play I'm guessing.

Well, SEO is still working the say way, there is a little changes, we have to use only fresh and quality content, this thing is also applied in link building, we have to build links using authority sites, different methods of link building and avoid keyword stuffing in link building.

We can't know what is going to happen in future it totally depends on the magic of technology and some big players in the market as well.

SEO can stop working for fools, predators and parasites who think they can hoodwink the search engines endlessly.

In the end, trying to deceive the search engines in order to win higher SERPs for content that's…

  • irrelevant
  • useless
  • inaccurate
  • unreliable
  • unauthoritative
  • poor quality
  • slow to load

will be a no-win game for idiots — especially SEO morons who rip their clients off with false promises and false hope, just to make a buck.

Your death-wish for your business WILL come true in the era when the Consumers Rule!

Well, I don't think that seo will ever stopped because internet users increasing rapidly every day and seo is totally depends on indernet so there is no probability that seo will stop. But as some members replies it may be strict as google algoritm is regularly updated.

This argument is specious. SEO is NOT needed for the search engines to work — and work well. To suggest that if SEO stopped working then the Internet and even computers would fail is ludicrous.

Please post more rational arguments with at least some degree of substance. Any more of this kind of nonsense will be removed.
