Hi and welcome to the Home Based Business Forums :D

If you're new to posting on forums, here are a few tips to help make the experience easier and more enjoyable. I'll be adding to this post from time to time, as I think of useful tips and hints. But, for now, here's a simple explanation of the structure of this forum to make it easier to navigate.

Your POST and POSTER control buttons

These images explain what the control buttons below all posts do.

Your PERSONAL POST function buttons

These buttons appear only in posts made by you…

If you're unsure of anything, please contact a moderator or Admin. We don't bite -- unless you're here to spam the forums or otherwise make a nuisance of yourself. Then you'll find yourself quickly booted and banned, permanently!

How to avoid getting into trouble in these forums

You'll notice that these forums are tightly moderated to eliminate spam and abuse — and to boot and ban people who abuse our hospitality, permanently.

Forums are no different to Search Engines: people use both to find high-quality, relevant content. As soon as we drop our guard, the pests and abusers immediately plaster ads and spam links all over these boards.

(We currently remove around 20-30 or more spammers every day. You rarely see them because we're notified by email as soon new posts appear. They get very little exposure and we actually scour the member registrations and remove suspected spambots — they typically register themselves a day or two before they begin posting via automated scripts.)

Many newcomers feel nervous about posting when they see so many Moderator comments pointing out breaches of forum rules. That's just part of our ongoing education system: by pointing out problems we give offenders a chance to fix them and everyone else a chance to learn from them. But if the problems persist, those posts are removed and repeat offenders are routinely banned.

How to avoid trouble in these forums

1. Read the rules BEFORE posting.
There are general rules that apply to ALL boards on these forums — you'll find them in the Announcements section at the top of each board index.
There are also rules that apply only to posts on individual boards/forums. They appear either in the Announcements section at the top of each board index, or as Sticky posts at the beginning of the posts section of each board index.

2. Don't choose a username that looks like a spambot name!
Spam bots use usernames that are automatically generated by forum posting scripts. They look like the examples posted below. Gibberish and nonsense. (These are spambots booted and banned in the first two hours today):

You'll find LOTS of similar, terminally-stoopid spambot usernames listed on our daily list of booted and banned usernames at http://www.homebusinessonline.com/community/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=15436&p=36990#p36990. (IP addresses are banned as well, but since most spammers hide behind proxy services, this only works for really dumb spammers.)

For some weird reason, some people think names like these are cool, believe it or not. Well... here's a word of advice: if you wear a uniform, expect to be shot at! Don't say you weren't warned. You'll probably find yourself unable to log in on your next visit because you've been banned as a suspected spambot. The notice you see will list "spambot username" as the reason. Of course, if you spam the forums, it will list "forum spamming", "forum spammer and moron" or something similar.

But aren't we alerting forum spammers, so that they can use different kinds of usernames?

It's a risk, sure, but you need to understand a few things about spammers of any kind...

  • As well as being liars, cheats and thieves, they're also lazy and stupid. Low-rent criminal minds. Mental pygmies.
  • It's easier for them to let the scripts they use do everything, including creating and registering auto-generated usernames.
  • They don't actually visit the forums themselves, or read the warnings and notices. These morons only know how to listen and read with their mouths.

Can you see why we happily boot and ban them on sight? Even before most of them post even once?

And why anyone dumb enough to register a gibberish username that could be mistaken for a spambot username isn't someone we mind throwing out with the garbage!

3. Understand that forums are the original online communities and behave accordingly.
Treat entering these forums as you would going to a party or social gathering. Get to know people and the general culture of the forums. Relax and enjoy yourself. Ask questions. Share ideas. But DO NOT post promotional copy, affiliate links or ads in your posts!

View this forum post for ideas on how to use forums to promote safely and effectively.

You may create a signature file that appears at the foot of every one of your posts, automatically. (Click here for instructions.) These are permitted as a fair exchange for contributing valuable content to the forums to help other members. But notice we use the term "valuable content". Garbage or fluff is NOT considered valuable or acceptable. Your entire post will be deleted if it fails to contribute to the discussion.

DO NOT use "faux" (fake) signature files that you type at the end of a post. These will be deleted and you may be banned if you continue posting them.

Thank you for sharing this information. The username list you have given is very useful, people often fall for such names if their REAL name is not available.

Everybody wants exposure very fast, often they don't want to look at forums rule and regulations. I was not exceptional when I started my onlinebusiness in 1997. Thank for your guidelines.
