I haven't really given much thought to that - I did not do anything on Facebook and twitter for some of my sites because I thought they should age first before I do that. But for the sites that I did some twitter - I had to admit that they really generated some traffic. Facebook does that too. I will be doing a lot of that from here on.

Hay Guys, I like the idea of using social media, I just find that there are so many others at it and alot of spammers at it, that people that really pay too much attention. I guess the key is to stand out....

I have tried lots of practice of SMO for generating traffic on your site. But as per my observation, you just have to concentrate on Organic traffic for increasing conversion rate.

Can you please spell out what you mean by SMO for our newer, less experienced members so we're all clear about your meaning, please?

Hey guys.. you may use hootsuite.com to update your social media site in one shot. Pretty sweet when I saw a friend using... I have not try personally though as I am not too much of social media marketer yet... quite left out when I come to think about it. But yea, should be a good tool to use for those that update pretty often in social media.

There are so many social media platforms, but no all of them are suitable for everyone, you need to figure out where are your audience, then interact with them. Of course, if you have enough time, you can register for an account on each platform.
Remember content is still the king! Quality welcome is always welcome.

Social media can defiinitely be a good platform for receiving traffic to your site.
I find it most useful when combined with a blog that you keep updated on a
regular basis. To save time as someone mentioned in an earlier post, I also use
hoote suite to post my updates to different social networks at one time.

Sharron,

Interesting site. What's the business model that keeps it free for users? Advertising?

Yes, it gives the option to buy more credits for advertising if you want them. I've never had to buy credits though. You can earn credits by commenting on other members' posts, sharing other persons' posts and blogs with other social sites like Twitter and Facebook. writing your own articles, and referring others. The more active you are, the more credits you earn.

Social networking sites are best platform to get free traffic for your blog/website.

Give your friends/followers something valuable. Something that would solve their problem. Showcase your skills and knowledge on your chosen niche. Show leadership. People always follow those who "really know" what they are talking about.

Do not just message or tag random people. Build relationships. Like and comment on their posts. You can also share inspiring and motivational quotes. Show people what you do on your free time. Show them the perks of your current work. Share bits and pieces of your life.

If you take time on doing all of these, you'll definitely get high quality traffic for your blog/website.

Provide some form of value to your target demographic, share content they can benefit from on social media. Stay away from constant self-promotion, I personally follow a 1:5 rule (i.e. for every self-promotional post follow it by 5 general posts). Teach a class online or give free advice depending what your business is. This allows you to come in contact with your demographic and upsell after.

Social media is the best platform to showcase your talent.
Embed links on your content to drive more traffic.
First find the relevant communities and join them.
Make use of signature with link feature.
Build strong relationship with customers.
