Post subject:  3. SEO backlink spam: how to get deleted & banned - FAST!

G'day gang :)

We're seeing a rise in the number of SEO backlink spam posts on these forums: these are usually short, vague, wishy-washy, meaningless replies or comments that:

  • have little or no relevance to the topic (they could apply to ANY topic)
  • add no real value to the discussion (in many cases they're posted using automated scripts) and
  • are posted for no other reason than to display backlinks in the poster's signature file for SEO purposes.

The owners and moderators of these forums are very experienced and we've seen just about every kind of trick and gimmick there is when it comes to attempted forum abuse, including SEO spamming. So before you waste your time and energy on posting this kind of lame spam, be aware that:

  • SEO backlink spam posts are routinely deleted, without warning, and
  • Repeat offenders are banned from these forums, permanently.
  • Posts that are regarded as questionable or borderline may have their attached signatures blocked. (Signatures are a fair exchange for posting content of value. No value, no signature.

Examples of SEO backlink spam posts:

"Thank you for this information. It is very helpful for me."

"Search engine optimization (or any other topic) is a way to get better search engine rankings and results. It can be done on-page or off-page."

"Do you think (topic or subject) is important in online business?" (followed by a signature with links promoting products or services related to that topic or subject).

Another perennial favourite is to simply describe the topic under discussion, which adds little or nothing of value. Here's a classic example from a discussion about "What is network marketing?". Apart from being entirely gratuitous, the content has been scraped verbatim from other sites with identical content… it's content theft. This may have been acceptable if it were original — and posted at the start of the topic. But not when it's plagiarized from other authors, and not on page 2 of the discussion.

Quote:
Network marketing is a business model and a legitimate business that uses several methods such as referral programs and direct selling to sell company products or services. In this business model, individual associates or distributors act like the franchise to the parent company or network marketing business company and they are paid with the compensation according to the number of products sold with their efforts or with their own organization.

There are many more examples, but you get the idea, right?

WARNING: No faux or pseudo signature files allowed!
These are additions to the main body of a post that are meant to look like genuine signatures.
Sometimes they're posted by inexperienced newcomers who don't know how to create a proper signature. If that's you, read the Rules on the first board to learn how to do it properly.

Most, however, are clumsy attempts to change the poster's backlinks according to the current topic without having to post a global signature (which needs to be more general because it appears on every post by that person).

Faux or pseudo signatures WILL be deleted on sight and repeat offenders banned.

No warnings will be issued to offenders.

UPDATE: 1 May 2012

There's another growing trend amongst SEO spammers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Philippines, China, Korea, Russia and Eastern Europe. Please read this notice:
