Moderator Comment: Please don’t misunderstand what I’m saying here… I’m NOT talking about network marketing itself in this post. I’m talking about deceptive, self-defeating practices used by “clueless MLMers” — people who don’t bother to think clearly about what they’re doing or being told to do by other “clueless MLMers” who either don’t know what they’re doing… or, worse still, know exactly what they’re doing!

Don’t be a “clueless MLMer”

Many people are confused by the name of these forums: “Home Business Online”

The reason is quite simple: in their relentless quest to distance themselves from the dumb, deceptive practices that have earned network marketing such a hostile, negative public perception, clueless MLMers think the solution is to simply call it by a different name. (Seriously — they're that clueless. To paraphrase the Bard, "a t*rd by any other name would smell as odious".) See this article to learn more about why this confusion occurs: http://realnetworkmarketing.com/change-stoopid-behavior/ < Right-click on the link to open in a new window.

The current favourite name for masking network marketing is “home based business” or simply “home business”. Not a home-based business. No — like “direct selling” before it, the term “home-based business” has been hijacked to be the new name for network marketing by “clueless MLMers”.

The problem is, network marketing is only ONE type of home-based business. It is NOT synonymous with home-based business.

So please understand this: if you turn up on these forums assuming that “home business online” means network marketing, then you should expect to be called out over it. No excuses. If you act deceptively on these forums, you’re in for a very rough time.

We have no issues with network marketing businesses, as long as they're legitimate, but we have serious issues with “clueless MLMers” who view these forums are some kind of happy hunting ground for recruiting new people.

Please read the rules BEFORE posting. There are very strict conditions that need to be met.

MLM-related posts (non-promotional and non-recruiting) are permitted as long as they're posted on the MLM/Network Marketing board. Post them elsewhere, or cross the line into promotional/recruiting territory, and you risk having your posts deleted and yourself banned.

We welcome anyone involved in any kind of Home Business. This board exist for all newcomers to these forums to introduce yourself and what you do, whether you run a conventional home business, an online business or a direct sales business. As long as the company you represent is legal and ethical, you're welcome to discuss issues to do with building your business, lead generation, conversion, marketing, retailing, recruiting, etc.

What's NOT welcome is promoting any kind of income opportunity or business opportunity in these forums, and especially on this introduction board.

If you cross that line — using these forums for lead generation or recruiting — your posts WILL be deleted.

Keep doing it and you WILL be banned, permanently.

PS: All posts about network marketing MUST be posted on the MLM/Network Marketing board.

PPS: Sorry to have to spell all this out so bluntly, folks, but we’ve had so many clueless MLMers abuse these boards over the years that we had to step in and set some specific forum rules for them. "Clueless MLMers" are people who just don't get it. They make life miserable for REAL network marketers. < Right-click on the link to open in a new window.

(We get a lot of unacceptable posts from MLMers, so I prefer to mention this right up front, just in case.) :)

is it okay to introduce yourself in the "intro" area if you do network marketing (and aren't doing any posts you aren't supposed to be)?

Absolutely. Network marketers are welcome here and should feel free to participate in all approved forum activity. The warning above is simply to help them avoid running into problems that many network marketers run into everywhere online — too often because of bad or misguided advice from their sponsors or upline leaders.

Like so many things in life, it's not so much WHAT you do that makes it legal or illegal, ethical or unethical, positive or negative, desirable or undesirable. It's WHY and HOW you do it.

For example, being deceptive, abusive or manipulative isn't WHAT you do. It's WHY and HOW you promote, sell, prospect, recruit, etc.

This is a BUSINESS forum that focuses on home-based business. That includes all forms of home business, including network marketing.

Promoting, selling, prospecting and recruiting are all important business building and marketing activities. They're WHAT you have to do to be successful. But these forums are NOT the place to be DOING those activities.

This is where you discuss, ask questions and share answers and ideas ABOUT why and how to do those things more effectively.

It's actually a requirement for all new forum members to introduce themselves — in a non-promotional way — on the first board… "This is who I am and this is what I do…"

John
