Unless you know what you're doing regarding copyright law, it is extremely risky to use images belonging to others.

This is especially true of image libraries like Getty Images, Stock image libraries, etc.

A significant part of their revenue is from legal action against people and companies using their intellectual property illegally. They have their own internal, dedicated legal teams pursuing offenders.

It is advised not to publish copyrighted images to your blog or website. I agree with John Counsel that stock photo agencies frequently go after blogs and websites that violate their copyrights by posting images and photos and earn substantial revenues from it. Keep on the safe side. If you have to use an image, use one that is not copyrighted (belonging to well-known stock photo agencies like Reuters, Getty Images, and other big names) and then don't forget to give credits to them.

Most online images especially from libraries and sites mentioned above have copyrights and posting them will be illegal (by the exact use of the law). What you can do maybe is use images that have no CC (Creative Commons) copyrights.

You can get more information about Licences and which photos are free to use, to share, to repost, to modify, to monetize from them etc based on the symbols on their licenses. You can checkout this for the description of the licenses

creativecommons.org/licenses/

Not having Creative Commons copyright notices is no guarantee that an image is not protected.

Getty Images do not carry CC copyright notices — but be prepared to sell your house if you get caught using their images without PRIOR, WRITTEN PERMISSION (after having paid their royalties, which are not cheap).

Same with ShutterStock and other image libraries.

When using royalty free images or Creative Commons Zero images, it's best to check the terms and conditions in each site or if terms and conditions come with each photo, make sure you read them carefully. Make reading a habit and you won't have any run-ins with using copyright protected images.

As others have said, its best to stick to using images with CC0 licences unless you have a particular knowledge of copyright laws.

There are so many accessible image banks out there. Beyond the paid services, Pixabay and Pexels have really great images available for free.
